About Jayne Holland

I started training to be a Mathematics Teacher in September 2002 and attained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in July 2003.

I taught Mathematics for students aged 11 to 16 in four different schools in Birmingham and Northampton.

I started my private tuition business, trading as Northampton Maths Tutor, in May 2006.  I have since tutored students aged from 8 to 50 with a variety of needs.

Prior to teaching, I worked as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer in the Automotive and Elevator industries, having graduated with BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from University of Hertfordshire.

In July 2017, I completed a BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Statistics degree with the Open University, graduating with a 1st class honours.

Information for school age students

One-to-one tuition in a quiet space with a variety of learning resources.

I can help children gain confidence and skills to boost their Maths performance in school or home education.

Tuition Just for You

If you’re a school student, you may currently be learning maths in a large class with varying personalities and abilities. Perhaps you only receive 2 minutes of individual attention and help in each hour of a lesson, or perhaps your teacher is spending more time on discipline than teaching.

Feedback

Are you getting enough feedback from your work? Many maths teachers are marking 150+ books and papers per week.  If they allow 25 hours per week for marking, how much time does your work get? I can provide the individual attention and feedback you need to progress.

Adult students

Whether you want to retake an exam, are considering a career change, or wish to become more independent by improving you maths skills – I can help.  I have extensive experience in helping adults who have left formal education many years ago.

Taking the next steps

Contact me to find out more about numeracy tests, entrance exams and retake exams.

A boost to confidence

I can help adults gain confidence in Maths skills and answer questions about history and application of Maths. Whatever your motivation, I can help you achieve your goals. Contact me for further information.

Information for Parents

Your Peace of Mind is Important

Mathematics is an important skill for your child to master to the best of their potential, irrespective of their age and assessed level. With conflicting demands on school and teachers, you may feel concerned that your child might not be achieving their best.
  • Their performance in tests, be they national or school assessed, at ages 11 to 15 can influence the level at which they study for GCSE, and hence the grade they are likely to achieve.  The earlier one-to-one tuition is started, the greater the academic progress.
  • Each lesson I give is planned and tailored to your child’s needs. They receive 100% attention to accelerate their learning.  I have a wide range of resources to target any areas of difficulty your child may have with learning. The individual and targeted help is provided in a calm and distraction free atmosphere.
  • If you are considering employing a private tutor for your child, particularly if the tuition is taking place outside of your home, you may feel apprehensive of placing a stranger in a position of trust.  I have certificates, Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and references available for your inspection.
